(12 km) PASS FJORDS AND FISHING VILLAGES Stay at Egilsstadir 9/6 Wednesday Hike Snæfell summit (1833m) 14 km visit the Krafla volcano, the curiously-coloured Námaskarð pass, the massive crater of Hverfell and the lunar-like pseudo-craters at Skútustaðir. stay at Lake Mývatn or Reykjahlíð 9/7 Thursday – sightseeing day Jökulsárgljúfur—part of Vatnajökull National Park, visiting such sights as the hoof-shaped Ásbyrgi canyon and the most powerful waterfall in Europe, Dettifoss. geothermal waters of the Mývatn Nature Baths, stay at Akureyri 9/8 Friday: Skagafjörður or take a detour on the way there to Tröllaskagi (“The Peninsula of the Trolls”), where you can enjoy fantastic scenery of beautiful mountains, cliffs and fjords. Then, continue through Siglufjörður, which was once the centre of Iceland’s herring fleet, and make a stop at Hofsós to relax in the thermal pool (optional) (Optional: at Húsavík, “The Whale Watching Capital of Europe”) Stay at Blönduós 9/9 Saturday - Snæfellsnes Peninsula / Borgarfjörður area. Hike to Kirkjufell Mountain (1542 ft, 2.4 miles) Stay at Ólafsvík 9/10 Sunday - Snæfellsjökull National Park and Snæfellsjökull Glacier hike between Arnarstapi and Hellnar mountain Stapafell Explore Dritvík Cove, Lóndrangar Cliffs as well as Hellnar and Arnarstapi Cliffs with its bursting bird-life.
