This is an awesome trip. We’re going to hike/cross country ski to one of the most beautiful places in Yosemite: Glacier Point. The road to Badger Pass to Glacier Point is a 10.5 mile drive during spring, summer and fall. In the winter when it’s all covered in snow they groom the road so people can hike and ski on it to get to Glacier Point. It’s a beautiful, moderately hard hike. If you haven’t been to Yosemite in the winter, you have to go. Seriously, though. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world. And at that time of the year we are likely to get to see the spectacle of fazil ice. Small crystals of frozen mist that get mixed with the creek water, forming this cool running snow/water/slurpy thing. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=9V9p4mFEYXc&vq=medium#t=15 And that’s just one of the amazing and unique things we get to see in Yosemite in the winter. Snow camping is actually very fun. This would be a good first snow camping trip. Nevertheless, I want to make sure everyone who signs up has experience backpacking and have all the equipment to stay safe. If you don’t have cross country skis you can rent them at the Badger Pass. And if you have never done it it’s very easy to learn. You will also need snowshoes, which you can also rent at Badger Pass.
